マンハッタンのいいところと言えば、休暇旅行で街を離れたときに、恋しくなること。生粋のニューヨーカーでさえ、いつでも何でも手に入るニューヨークの便利さを改めて実感するために、ときどき街を離れるのです。私自身も先日、モントークという、ハンプトンの中でもカジュアルな地域へ小旅行に出かけました。モントークは、大西洋側の中でも特にイイ波があると言われていて、サーファー達には大人気のエリア。さらに、サマーシーズンになると、たくさんのキュートなサーファーバーやレストランがオープンします。
美味しいものがずらりと並ぶモントークのタウンに軒を連ねるのは、お土産ショップたち。モントークでは、（ハンプトンの他のエリアとは違い、）ファッショナブルなお店はこれまでほとんど見かけませんでした。そんなモントークに、今年のメモリアルデー・ウィークエンド（戦没者を追悼する祝日。５月の最終月曜日で３連休となり、アメリカでは夏の始まりを象徴するウィークエンド。）に合わせてモントークに新しくオープンしたのが、シンシア・ローリーのポップアップショップ。サマーシーズンだけオープンするこのショップのテーマは、「知らんぷり」。なので、お店にはシンシア・ローリーのロゴもなければ、大きな看板もなく、あるのは「Shop」と書かれた青いネオンのみ。モントークの気楽な雰囲気に合わせた店内には、ウェットスーツ、水着、Meyerhofferのサーフボードや、ハウス＆ガーデンツールなども揃っています。もちろん全てシンシア・ローリーによるデザイン。この小さな町にとって、「Shop」が都会的スパイスになることは間違いありません。
モントークは、体と心をリラックスさせるためのパーフェクトな休暇スポット。万が一、ニューヨークのファッションがどうしても恋しくて仕方なくなったとしても、これからは大丈夫。体と心だけでなく、あなたのファッション欲も癒してくれます。

The best thing about Manhattan is missing it when you leave for a little get-a-way trip. Even the truest New Yorkers have to leave the city to be able to appreciate the 24/7 accessibility feature New York offers. I recently left on a little excursion to Montauk which is the laid back and casual area of the Hamptons. Montauk offers a paradise for enthusiastic surfers as the town is known for some of the best waves the Atlantic Ocean has to offer. Aside from the waves the little town lays out a bevy cute surfer bars and restaurants to choose from during the summer season.
Aside from the palatable dining haven, fashionable boutiques seem to have taken a back seat to all the souvenir shops in Montauk, until now. Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, designer, Cynthia Rowley has opened a pop up shop for the summer at 696 Montauk Highway. The theme in the town is to play it coy so no Cynthia Rowley logos or large signs can been seen when approaching the store, just a blue neon sign reading, "Shop." The pieces in the "Shop" are tailored to Montauk’s laid back and effortless flavor. The shop carries a selection of wetsuits, swimsuits, surfboards by Meyerhoffer and home and garden tools, all designed by Cynthia Rowley, herself. The pop-up store is the perfect urban addition to the quant little ocean town.
Montauk is now the perfect little get-a-way that will not only soothe and relax your body and mind, it will also relax your need to have a little fashion zest to quench your hankering if missing New York fashion becomes too unbearable.
