前回の「ニューヨークで噂のNEWショップ、The Reformation」に引き続き、レベッカがまたまたオープンしたばかりのホットなショップを紹介してくれます。

ようやくこの厄介なリセッションから抜け出せそうな兆しが見え始め、ビジネスがすっかり落ち込んでいたニューヨークの多くのショップでも、活気が戻ってきた今日この頃。あちこちで、新しいショップのオープニング・ラッシュを迎えています。

中でも話題なのが、ジュエリーデザイナーのフィリップ・クランジが先週オープンしたばかりのショップ。

彼が手がける２つのブランド - ファーストラインの「フィリップ・クランジ・ファインジュエリー」と、コスチュームラインである「ジャイルズ・アンド・ブラザーズ」の両方を集約したこのお店。なんとその名も「ザ・クランジ・ファミリー・プロジェクト」。

場所は、なんとミートパッキング地区の９番街にあるパスティス（※註1）の隣です！ミートパッキングといえば、シックに装って歩くオシャレ・ピープルと、分厚く膨らんだエルメスのお財布が溢れるエリアで、ショップをオープンするには最高のロケーション。

クランジは、彼の実妹であり、2007年のCFDA/ヴォーグ・ファッション・ファンドの勝者であるコートニー・クランジをビジネスパートナーとしてこのプロジェクトを立ち上げました。

ストアの内装は、クランジ本人によるデザインと施工で、まさに彼の努力の賜物。黒いブリキの天井とヴェルヴェットの壁の組み合わせは、強くてマスキュリンだけどロマンチックな雰囲気を演出しています。カスタムメイドのシェルフには手作業によるリボンテープの飾りが施されていて、こういったティテールは全てクランジ本人による「古風でエレガント」という世界観から生まれたもの。

ストアに所狭しと置かれているユニークなキャンドル＆キャンドル立てや、レアなビンテージブックなど、クランジが「興味をそそる面白いモノたち」と呼ぶアイテムが、チャーム・ネックレスや、ブレード・ブレスレットに使われているアンティーク・チャームをうまく引き立てています。

居心地が良くて、いろんな面白いモノが詰まったこのストア、実はクランジ自身の仕事場であり、家でもあります。ニューヨーカーは、どうにかして高いレント代を節約しないといけないのですね。

We are finally overcoming the effects of that pesky recession that I refused to take part in over the last year, and stores are finally starting to see dollar signs and new stores are popping up all over New York again. One of the buzz worthy shops that opened this past week was jewelry designer Philip Crangi. Philip Crangi Fine Jewelry and the Giles & Brother costume line opened their doors right beside Pastis on ninth Avenue. The Meatpacking district location is a perfect spot for copious amounts of chic foot traffic and loaded Hermes wallets. Crangi is making his new project a family affair, as he is working closely with his sister and business partner Courtney Crangi who was the 2007 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner.
 
The interior of the boutique itself was a labour of love as Crangi himself designed and built the little gem. Dark pressed-tin ceilings and plush velvet walls exude an interior intelligence that is bold, masculine yet romantic. Custom built shelving and ribbon trim was all done by hand as each detail is touched by Crangi's old-world elegance. There are baubles of charm necklaces and exquisite braided bracelets all with an antique charm which is complimented by the knick-knack array of unique candles, candle holders, rare collections of vintage books and curiosity items that Crangi dubs as "unique objects of interest."
The boutique promises to be a homey and an eclectic little jewel of a store as Crangi actually lives and works in the space. I guess New Yorker's have to save on rent costs somewhere.
